He has trouble finding words. His hearing is impaired, he uses a hearing aid, so it is necessary to speak clearly and calmly. He walks independently but is unsteady on his feet. He requires a companion when outdoors. Assistance and supervision are needed on stairs. He manages to get up independently. He is incontinent for urine, uses pads, and retains bowel control. He needs guidance and partial assistance with dressing, hygiene, and toileting. Clothes need to be prepared for him, reminders given for changing, and help provided where necessary. Reminders to visit the toilet, accompaniment, and assistance with changing incontinence products are needed during toileting. Assistance is required with showering, washing hair, and entering the bath or shower. The gentleman eats independently; supervision of fluid intake and regular meals is necessary. Medications are prepared; their intake needs to be monitored. The role includes household management such as cooking, shopping, cleaning, laundry, general errands, and companionship during the day. Maintaining a daily routine and supervising the senior are important. His wife, who does not require care, also lives in the household, and a 10-year-old Australian Shepherd, cared for by the wife and a neighbor, is also in the house with them.
