Caregiver Borgstedt

Care for a 57-year-old gentleman living alone, weighing 67 kg and measuring 170 cm. He has been paralyzed from the neck down since a diving accident in 1992. He has limited hand movement, but no longer controls his hands. He uses an electric wheelchair. He has a suprapubic urinary catheter and rectal paralysis. He requires full assistance with personal hygiene, dressing, and transfers between bed and wheelchair. A suppository for bowel evacuation is needed every three days, followed by cleaning and tidying up stool. Occasionally, stool may get into his underwear. The urine bag needs to be emptied regularly, and medication reminders are necessary. The caregiver cooks, shops, cleans, washes, irons, and manages the household. Shops are about 800 meters away. Assistance is provided with daily activities, companionship, wheelchair walks with the gentleman, and accompanying him on errands as needed. If the caregiver is interested, they can also go on outings together. At night, repositioning is required once, around 10:30 PM. A profiling bed, transfer board, and hoist are available for standing and transfers. The family does not live nearby; a contact person resides in the neighborhood. A large golden retriever occasionally visits. Free time is by agreement.
