Caregiver Aalen

Care for an independently living 87-year-old gentleman, 78 kg, 180 cm, who primarily uses a wheelchair and a walker. He suffers from Parkinson's disease, has limited mobility, slight hand tremors, and urinary incontinence (uses incontinence aids). He does not have dementia. His hearing is compensated by a hearing aid, and his eyesight is appropriate for his age. Walking is possible with the support of a walker, and mobilization is performed daily. He requires partial assistance with dressing, hygiene, and using the toilet, and he tries to cooperate. A barrier-free shower and a shower chair are available. He eats independently; ensuring regular meals and adequate fluid intake is necessary. He enjoys sweets, and a softer diet is recommended due to mild swallowing difficulties; food may need to be cut as needed. The care includes supervision of medication intake, which is prepared; the first dose is administered at 6:00 AM. This also includes accompanying him to doctor's appointments, running errands, general daily assistance, maintaining a daily routine, and providing companionship and conversation. Leisure time should be spent according to his interests, such as watching football, engaging in small manual activities, going for walks, visiting the cemetery, or taking day trips together. The gentleman also enjoys spending time in the garden, where it is advisable to accompany him and supervise him. The scope of work also includes household management, such as meal preparation, grocery shopping, cleaning, and laundry care. His daughter lives in a separate apartment unit in the house; she is busy with work but assists with care organization. The gentleman has a calm, friendly disposition, is open, grateful for help, and occasionally enjoys a cigarette. Night shifts are required approximately 1-2 times per night, mainly to assist with toileting and changing incontinence aids. A large room with a bathroom and garden access is available for the caregiver; the kitchen is shared.
