Care for an 88-year-old gentleman, 175 cm, 75 kg with senile weakness and dementia. The gentleman has unsteady gait with assistance, uses a cane or walker. He is partially incontinent of urine. He has cataracts, asthma, high blood pressure, dizziness, and forgets to eat and drink. The gentleman goes to bed early and gets up early. An outpatient care service visits the household to prepare medications, and a cleaning lady comes every 2 weeks. The gentleman tries to be self-sufficient in personal care. It is especially necessary to monitor fluid and food intake, and in case of need, to escort him to the toilet at night. The gentleman enjoys crosswords, newspapers, Sunday church services on TV, small kitchen activities, and short walks. A 77-year-old female friend visits on weekends, and his daughter visits several times a week. Household management, meal preparation, cleaning, laundry care, and shopping (available 2 km away) are also part of the care.
