Care for an independently living 88-year-old lady (65 kg, 170 cm) who suffers from early-stage dementia and has impaired short-term memory. She is completely deaf in one ear and has poor hearing in the other (she is reluctant to use her hearing aid). Her vision is limited (she is blind in one eye), but she can still read. She moves with the help of a commode chair and a wheelchair, to which she can transfer herself, but the caregiver should always be nearby for safety. She can manage short distances with a walker when accompanied and goes for walks in her wheelchair. She gets up independently; there is a stairlift in the house and an emergency button connected to her daughter. She suffers from knee osteoarthritis and anemia and is physically weak. She is not incontinent but uses diapers preventatively. She requires full assistance with personal hygiene and dressing/undressing, participating as much as her capabilities allow. She goes to the toilet with partial assistance (she needs to be accompanied, helped with hygiene, and with changing diapers). She eats independently; shared meals and supervision of her fluid intake are important. Care includes cooking, shopping, cleaning, laundry, running small errands, maintaining a daily routine, and, most importantly, companionship, conversation, and spending time together. She enjoys card and board games, crosswords, and wheelchair walks. Her daughter prepares her medications, and the family arranges doctor's appointments. Her daughter lives in the same building in a separate apartment unit. Night duty is not required, and a care service visits once a week for hygiene.
