He has undergone heart surgery - a triple bypass, has an abdominal aortic aneurysm with stents, and an unoperated hernia. He is currently bedridden, but his condition is showing signs of improvement. The gentleman requires full assistance with hygiene, dressing, and toileting. Hygiene is performed in bed; his sons assist with showering once a week. He needs partial assistance with meals. He is currently non-ambulatory and requires help with lifting and transfers. A hospital bed and wheelchair are available; a hoist has been ordered. His sons can provide assistance if needed. The caregiver is responsible for the gentleman's care and maintaining the household - cleaning, vacuuming, floor washing, and laundry. His wife cooks, or they may cook together with the caregiver. His sons manage grocery shopping. Night assistance is needed approximately 1-2 times per night. His wife also resides in the household, and the caregiver can occasionally assist her, for example, with drying her hair. Free time is by arrangement.
