Caregiver Bollschweil

Care for an 82-year-old gentleman, 65 kg, 178 cm, who has undergone colon cancer surgery and has a suprapubic catheter. He is physically weak, sleeps a lot, and uses a walker or requires assistance to move. He does not have dementia. The gentleman strives for independence and needs help with personal hygiene (entering and exiting the shower, washing, hair washing), dressing and undressing, walking (including stairs), getting up, and using the toilet – particularly with stoma emptying. He uses incontinence products for urine. He eats independently but requires regular shared meals and monitoring of adequate fluid intake. The caregiver manages daily household chores: cleaning, laundry, cooking, shopping in cooperation with the family, and pet care (feeding, walking). Escorting to doctor's appointments or other agreed-upon times with the family, running errands, and maintaining daily structure are also necessary. The gentleman has a calm disposition, accepts help, but also needs time for himself. He enjoys engaging in activities when motivated, spending time in the garden, and walking the dog. He appreciates company. Two people live in the household – his wife (77 years old, care level 2), who suffers from arthritis in her hands and requires only minor assistance with tasks like hair washing or small daily chores. The caregiver should also assist her as needed. Family help is possible by arrangement. Night work or heavy lifting is not required. There is a dog in the house.
