Care for an independently living 78-year-old elderly lady, 55 kg, 160 cm, who is physically dependent on care. She has complete paralysis of both legs and her right arm due to multiple sclerosis, which she has suffered from for 19 years. She is incontinent and wears protective briefs; transfer to the toilet is not necessary. Mentally, she is vital and fully oriented. Assistance includes complete help with dressing and undressing, personal hygiene (washing takes place at the sink in a wheelchair or in bed), meal preparation, cleaning, laundry, ironing, and shopping. The lady needs to be transferred between the bed and the wheelchair – in the morning upon waking, in the afternoon for rest, and in the evening for sleep. A visiting care service helper also assists with transfers. The lady does not have an adjustable bed and also uses a bedpan. Movement on stairs is possible with a stairlift, but it is not necessary daily. The lady sits stably but has no control over more than 70% of her body. Night care is not required. There is no hoist available in the household. The caregiver must be able to manage transfers and transfer techniques.
